Communicable Disease

Controlling and preventing the spread of disease is one of the main priorities of public health work. From Ebola to influenza to malaria to Lyme disease, outbreaks of communicable diseases can have a major impact on individuals and entire communities. Many diseases are communicable from person to person. However, other diseases spread from animal to person. Some infectious diseases can be spread through bodily fluids, air, or by touch. An infectious disease can cause mild symptoms or can be lethal.
